LED puck lights are small lights that use light emitting diodes (LEDs) to create lighting for an area that is typically out of the way or otherwise difficult to light. These lights are generally small and self-contained, running on batteries or through solar charging for nighttime use. Some of these lights are intended for fairly permanent use and can be connected to a surface through a mounting bracket, though other lights are designed to stick in an area and be removed later. LED puck lights can be activated in a number of different ways, and can be simple white lights or provide colored illumination.
Sometimes called “under cabinet lights,” LED puck lights can be utilized both indoors and outdoors for many different purposes and in different spaces. These lights are typically fairly small and round, similar in general size and shape to a puck used in ice hockey, from which they have received their common name. They are often manufactured in a disc shape and are circular, usually with either two flat sides for mounting and illumination, or a single flat side for mounting and a dome shape that provides illumination. Most LED puck lights have several LEDs within them, providing sufficient illumination for a small area indoors or outside.
LED puck lights are typically created for temporary use and often run on batteries that can be easily replaced. Some lights have solar panels that will recharge during the day, and can then provide illumination at night. Most of these temporary lights can be easily adhered to a surface to provide lighting, and then removed and placed in another location. There are also more permanent LED puck lights that can be mounted below a cabinet, in a hallway, or as part of a garden and provide long-term lighting.
Most LED puck lights provide white light to help illuminate a path or hallway in the dark, or to provide subtle light in a large area. There are also lights made with colored LEDs to not only provide illumination but also create dramatic and interesting lights and patterns of color. Some of these lights are even designed to change to different colored lights, creating shifting colors that can be relaxing to watch. LED puck lights are often controlled with a small switch on the side of the light housing, though some models are designed to be turned on or off by pressing the domed surface of the light.
